Must Garmi
Født 28.06.71 i Dakar (Senegal), begynte Must å male tidlig i livet sitt, og har nå malt i mer enn 20 år. Han fikk sin formelle utdannelse innen kunst ved Kunstakademiet i Dakar fra 91 til 95. Siden den gang har han deltatt på en rekke gruppe- og solo- utstilinger rundt omkring i verden – blant annet i Italia, Frankrike, Tyskland, Spania, USA og Canada. Nå bor han i Trondheim og arbeider som kunstner og musiker. Dette er hans andre utstilling i Norge.
Curatorial note
Must’s paintings are vibrant and evocative. The colours are spread out on the canvas and the use of mixed media somewhat enlivens the images. He creates a pictorial space in his works with a modernistic approach. Most of the works are semi-figurative and reveal the artist’s sense of belonging to his roots and culture. The viewer can relate with the ethnic approach of the works, and also note that in these troubled times the faces which emerge through the paintings represent certain nobility.
