One of our highlights is the presentation of our annual DreamTeam-artist. Trøndelag has many fantastic musicians who travel all over the world and puts the Trondheim area on the map, both geographically and musically. We are privileged to work with musicians and institutions who share our vision and joy in music, especially regarding ethnical music and history.
This years artist is Tor-Einar Bekken aka Dr Bekken. A pianist, composer, a unique performer and conveyor of music. It’s equally engaging listening to Dr Bekken introduce and talk about musicians he’s played with and whose music he presents as it is listening to him play himself. And that says something as his piano skills are in a class of their own! He wrote his Masters on the New Orleans piano tradition and has since developed his own style by mixing genres like boogie woogie, blues and jazz. Quite often one might also discover some traditional Norwegian influences. Today he’s an associate professor at NTNU while also working as a performing artist.
He has a number of recordings on his resume, one of which was nominated for the Norwegian Grammy in 2017. Little Steven presented him with the Blues Prize at Notodden Blues Festival in 2019. He’s a distinctive figure on the Norwegian blues- and jazz scene, he’s played venues all over Europe as a solo artist, but has also teamed up with legendary stars like Eddie Bo, Big Al Carson, Louisina Red and Marva Wright.
He’s put together a mighty DreamTeam for us:
