«See my fire burn in the dark” – Romani culture in Norway - Transform

We speak of a multicultural society like it’s something established in the last twenty years. The truth is Norway has been multicultural for hundreds of years. The story of the romani minority in Norway is highly under-communicated and Transform has – in collaboration with The Cultural School program in Trondheim municipality, made this production for children from 14-16 years old.

Through this project we get to know a Romani family steeped in the current active culture. They are important figureheads who convey the knowledge of what it is to be Romani and how to preserve the language, stories and music. Music has always been an integral part of the Romani heritage and it’s an important tool to convey why diversity is important to societies.

Lennart Karlsen and Thomas Pedersen participated in the Melodi Grand Prix in 2021 with the band River and their song Coming Home. Thomas also plays in the duo CirCuz.
